Pop Autopsy: “How To Save A Life,” The Fray

I can’t believe it’s been like three weeks between posts. I’ve been busy.

However, I have had lurking in the back of my mind the thought that I got a really good response for my first Pop Autopsy. I just couldn’t figure out which song to choose next.

Then I was in a restaurant, or a mall, or perhaps even a crematorium, and heard the familiar plinking piano notes of a song that has driven me crazy with both mild like and raging hate over the past year or so, and I realized I had found my next corpse.

It is shocking to me that this song came out in 2005. That’s what the lyrics page said. Maybe that’s wrong.

No mp3 to hear this time round but if you’ve somehow managed to miss “How To Save A Life” by The Fray, it’s probably for the best. What we’ve got here is a mild acoustic mid-tempo number in the mold of a less-produced Coldplay; the tune is driven by an insistent piano riff, which I am always a sucker for, and which is probably the chief reason I will even leave this horseshit on the radio when it comes on.
