Ah, Chicago.

Chicago’s one of the great local media cities in the country, perhaps the world.

Radio, TV, newspapers…every medium has its own rivalries, its own controversial figures, and its own undisputed giants. There is also, of course, absolutely fierce competition.

Which is what makes the Amy Jacobson saga so very delicious.

According to WBBM-TV (the CBS affiliate), Jacobson (a reporter at WMAQ-TV, the NBC affiliate) was spotted in some kind of odd voyeur video at the home of home of Craig Stebic, whose estranged wife, Lisa Stebic, has been missing since April 30. The couple, who have two children, were in the midst of a divorce.

So of course, Jacobson got canned, because whatever her excuses may be, the whole scenario has at least the appearance of gross incompetence, even for a vaguely sleazy local news reporter. It’s not so much a breach of a reporter’s ethical code as it is taking that code and droppin’ the proverbial deuce right on top of it.

Anyway, juicy story, but probably nothing compared to the field day that local media is having with it. Man, it’s times like these when I miss Chicago. Steve Dahl’s gags alone would be practically unmissable. To a guy like him, the Jacobson kerfuffle is a gift from the gods.
