The X-Mas Files 2007: Day 5

Since we’re still shockingly early in the holiday season, it seems safe to share a track that’s more of a noble failure than a true Christmas classic.

The first half of this track features Wyclef Jean doing something that’s nearly impossible–finding a fresh, legitimate, exciting take on the holiday standard “Little Drummer Boy,” which has been covered to death by any number of artists. It’s sort of astonishing to me than no one else has considered marrying the bombast of good rock drumming with the tune’s title character; the result is electric.

Then the track abruptly shifts gears and becomes a bad wedding cover band doing their best to massacre “Hot, Hot, Hot.” No joke.
